Welcome to the Museum and Forum Schloss Homburg!
Visit
Homburg Castle has been one of the landmarks of the Oberberg district for centuries and looks back on a long history. The appearance of the former early medieval castle has changed steadily over time, most significantly with its expansion into a representative castle complex in the 17th century. Finally, in 1926, the Oberbergisches Heimatmuseum (Oberberg Local History Museum) was established at Homburg Castle. A lot has happened in the history of the Museum at Homburg Castle: the Oberbergischer Kreis (Oberberg district) acquired the building, extensions and renovations took place, and the Museum along with its collection has been continuously expanded.
Today, this collection comprises more than 20,000 cultural and natural history objects. In the rooms of the castle, a diverse selection from this extensive collection is on display where regularly changing themes constantly open up new perspectives on the collection.
The former forester's lodge is home to the natural history collection.
Exhibitions, concerts, readings, or receptions - the forum is the centre and venue for the cultural program at Homburg Castle. Also, various events such as open-air concerts and the annual medieval market take place on the premises around the castle at regular intervals.
Many educational and communication programs offer guided tours, workshops, and courses on various topics for groups and interested individuals across all age groups.
The texts in the museum are in German. A flyer with information in English is available at the ticket office.
Guided tours and programs in English can be booked through our visitor service. For booking inquiries or further information, please contact our visitor service by phone at 02261 8841-71 (Tues.- Sun. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.) or send an email to muspaed@obk.de.
